| Introduction to Drawing - 4 week class | ||
"I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler." Perhaps if you held your pencil in this position...! Designed for those those who are interested in pursuing drawing as a creative outlet but who have very limited experience and as a precurser to the Drawing for Beginners class. In this class Laura focuses on familiarizing you with drawing tools and materials and presents basic techniques that enable you to achieve different effects and become more confident with your drawing skills. She also focuses on correct posture and workspace set up to help you avoid physical fatigue that can actually undermine your production without you realizing it! Drawing is the foundation for all other forms of painting. The axiom “Your finished piece is only as good as your original drawing.” can be intimidating yet is true. Becoming comfortable and confident in your drawing skills can improve your work dramatically. Class format: alternating demonstrations and brief lectures with time working on your drawing exercises, plus (gentle) critiques and tailored feedback. Class size is limited to 4 students to be certain that everyone receives attention. Once you have completed your registration you will be provided with materials lists and templates. | Drawing For Beginners - 4 week class - ongoing | ||
"To see we must forget the name of the thing we are looking at." Claude Monet Drawing is the foundation for all other forms of painting. The axiom “Your finished piece is only as good as your original drawing.” can be intimidating yet is true. Becoming comfortable and confident in your drawing skills can improve your work dramatically. In this class Laura focuses on teaching you to draw what your eyes actually see rather than what your mind tells you that you should be drawing. She helps you to recognize and break down complex subjects into key components. Identifying these shapes and their relationships helps with realistic reproduction. Working from real life will increase your understanding of how the light source affects your subject. Laura will also touch on selecting the right tools and techniques for different subjects to increase your comfort level. | Drawing - Intermediate Level - 4 week class - ongoing | ||
For students who are comfortable with drawing and want to expand their skills. A more informal class, students work on their own projects and receive assistance as needed. Gentle critiques are offered as well as suggestions from Laura on how to improve your finished drawings. Color pencils and watercolor pencils are acceptable mediums if you are comfortable with their use. | Color Pencil Workshop - 2 day workshop | ||
Take your drawing to the next level with color! This workshop will focus on using artist’s grade color pencils to render your favorite subject. From correct application to nuances of shading to layering colors, we will be concentrating on techniques to move into this exciting medium. Laura will also touch on the brands of color pencils available, plus the pros and cons of buying sets or individual pencils from open stock. Drawing time will be interspersed with demonstrations and short lectures. Laura will be available to give individual attention while you are working. | Aerial Perspective - 4 hour workshop - Schedule to be determined. | ||
Enhance your drawings and paintings by emphasizing aerial perspective. From landscapes to still lifes to close-ups of flowers, this tool helps create depth and interest. Laura will focus on the use of variations in line, color and value to achieve this important aspect in your work no matter what medium you prefer.
